The Flint Public Library wants students to know reading is fundamental – and it’s OK to draw on the ground.

Now that school’s back in session, chalkboards are all the rage for teachers, but what about those pupils who are so often tempted to use the coveted writing tool?

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 22 students are invited to “Chalk the Walk!” Community judges will award prizes to the most creative concepts, words and images scrawled on the Kearsley Street sidewalks outside the branch at 1026 East Kearsley.

Ages toddler through high school are invited to participate in the fun, art-inspired event. If weather doesn’t permit, contestants will be allowed to flex their finger muscles at “Chalk the Walk!” in the library’s lower level Meeting Room.

For more information, call the library at (810) 232-7111.
