Fun in Flint: In May take in meditation sessions, bike rides, wildflower walks

There is a wealth of fun and interesting things to do in Flint and Genesee County.

We’ve enjoyed the winter activities, now it’s time to soak up the sun and take in the many warm weather adventures offered in the area.

Relax and gather your thoughts Mindfulness Meditation at For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum, 2142 Genesee Rd. in Burton on May 6. These weekly meditation sessions help reduce stress and increase self-awareness. The class is taught by Todd Robinson, a mindfulness and meditation master. Bring a mat to sit on and dress in comfortable clothing. It runs from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Weekly bike rides on the Flint River Trail start on Sunday, May 7 and continue every Sunday through October. Join Friends of the Flint River Trail  for the 12-16 mile, leisurely, family-friendly ride. There is a short break mid-ride. The rides leave from the old Flint Farmers Market on Boulevard Dr. promptly at 2:00 p.m. You’ll ride along the Flint River Trail where you can take in the Stepping Stone Falls, Bluebell Beach, and the Genesee Valley Mall.

If you’re looking for something to do with mom on Mother’s Day check out the Wildflower Walk at For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum, 2142 Genesee Road in Burton. The walk is May 12 and runs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 16 and older. The Nature Preserve and Arboretum has an abundance of wildflowers, and you’ll marvel at their beauty and variety, especially those found in their natural habitat. Jim Cohen, a botanist at Kettering University, leads this adventure. The cost is $3. Registration is required by May 10. You can register by clicking here.
