The Flint River Watershed Coalition plans to knock a bit of the chill off the community’s winter woes with an event at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 at Factory One.
Promoting the theme of “Flint River Ice,” the organization will host its 2019 Voice of the River Annual Celebration, featuring festive, seasonal décor, fun trivia, an auction, and an announcement of the Flint River Watershed Coalition Award winners.
“It’s a fun evening with some really great raffle items,” says Rebecca Fedewa, executive director of the Coalition. “We’ve got a nice dinner buffet and a cash bar.”

Along with celebrating some of the achievements made by organization’s supporters and river advocates in 2018, the program will feature announcements about 2019 initiatives, Fedewa says. Some of the efforts to be announced will result in increased access to the Flint River, she adds.
The program will also celebrate Michigan’s special designation of the river as one of six water trails across the state.
Coalition award winners Joe Leonardi, Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, Bob Waun, Dr. Gary Pace, Peter McCreedy, Kathy Smith, Alex Thibeault and Steve Hester will be recognized at the program. Online voting for the Coalition’s “Golden Gloves” award continues until Jan. 28. Votes can be cast at the Flint River Watershed Coalition Facebook page.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at www.FlintRiver.org or by calling 810-767-6490. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
“We’re really excited for this year,” says Fedewa. “We want to get everybody excited about what’s going on with this great resource for the community.”
