Splashes of color and vibrant images created by students will greet visitors to Diplomat
Specialty Pharmacy’s atrium April 24 through April 26.
Featuring more than 1,500 pieces that represent movement, the “Art in Motion”
exhibition will showcase the talents of YouthQuest from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the 11,000-
square-foot space at 4100 Saginaw St.
Overseen by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, YouthQuest is an after school
program that supports academics and personal enrichment. “Art in Motion” is part of the
ArtQuest theme in YouthQuest’s regular instruction and exposure to education beyond
the traditional classroom. Supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21 st
Century Community Learning Centers, YouthQuest annually serves 2,000 students at 16
sites.
“Every year, we dedicate a portion of our after school program to art,” says Rhetta
Hunyady, vice president of education and training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber.
“Students learn about different techniques and are shown how to apply those methods on
their own. It’s a great, hands-on way to foster skills like creativity and innovation, and
have fun while doing it.”
Japanese Koinobori kites will hang from the ceiling as part of the exhibit, and a selection
of abstract art will show what students can create by blowing paint through plastic straws.
Local artist Ryan Gregory will be a guest, along with “Peggy,” an interactive sculpture
inspired by the Greek mythological, winged horse Pegasus. Hands-on activities at “Art in
Motion” will include painting with ping pong balls and creating paper spinners. There
will also be live entertainment.
Admission to “Art in Motion” is free, but guests are encouraged to RSVP by calling
(810) 600-1422. For more information visit www.yquest.org.
